One Week Down, 9 More To Go
The last several days here have been somewhat of a drunken blur, but I'll try to adequately give you a recap. We went to O'Sheas the other day to gamble it up and the first thing we did was head to the blackjack table. I only bought in for $100 to prevent myself from doing what I normally do and bet $100+ on one hand after getting bored. I busted my initial $100 real quick and put another $100 on the table, and the other guys were all almost bust as well. That's when everything turned around, and about 4 hours and 8 beers later I finished up about $100. I think between the 5 of us we took about $1k off the table, which was quite impressive for a $10 table. We went and played craps while Ringer sat at poker, and after a little while there I finished up about $200. Thank you Tiltbad for your wonderful tip on how to bet on craps! Later I sat at the poker table with Ringer and his two friends and not too long after showing up I did a mississippi straddle, it folded around to my neighbor on my right and he raised it up like he had been the last several hands, I 3bet, he 4bet, and I decided to 5bet shove my A4o. He snap called with his AK and I bricked out. When the hand was over I mucked my hand, which touched both my neighbors cards as well as cards in the muck, then my neighbor asked to see my hand and the dealer proceeded to reach into the muck and flip my cards over. I was irate and drunk, so I went off on the dealer for a good 5 minutes, then went off on my neighbor when he started defending the dealer and started talking shit to me. He left like 2 hands later and I left about an hour later because I was about to pass out at the table. It's pretty depressing to walk out of there at 6AM and it be light out already.
On Saturday we tried to get over our hangovers and then went to Tryst at the Wynn and got a sick table which was right under the waterfall. The girl to guy ratio there was insane...it was at least 2:1, but Josh had 4 girls meeting us there and I started talking to one of them right away her and we ended up talking and hanging out all night. This included doing '80's dance moves like the sprinkler and the lawn mower on our couch and then playing 3-card poker and slots at Caesar's after having to take one of her drunk friends back to their room. We ended up meeting up with her and her friends again on Sunday at the Palms intending to go to the club Rain, but the line was so long and I didn't feel like paying the insane amount of money we paid the night before for a table, so we all went to Caesars instead and played blackjack for a while, then went to O'Sheas to get some Subway and play beer pong, and then we all went back to the house and chilled until I had to take her and her friend back so they could catch their planes home. I passed out as soon as I got home, which was at like 11AM, and then all I really did yesterday was play a nice online session where I made $1k and then go back to sleep. The lack of sleep I've been getting in Vegas has been getting to me, and even today I feel out of it. I'm going to try to get back into a normal routine soon, and stay away from the alcohol for a few days since I've been drinking way more than I intended to. I'm off to the gym and then have to run some errands, peace!
Here's some pics from our first week here:

Beer pong at O'Sheas. While sober I suck, while drunk I'm awesome.

Working it at Tryst.
Pdonk apparently doesn't know how to do the sprinkler. On the flip side, Allison taught me the sound effects that go with her version of the sprinkler.

Epic Fail: Hero Fold Gone Bad
Two of Damn Ringer's friends came into town yesterday so after hanging out by the pool and pre-drinking during the day we went to the Wynn to play some poker. After paying the $35 cab fare (we're only like 15 mins from the strip) we went in and put our names on the 1/3 list. It took a little while for us all to get seated at the same table, and when I did like my third hand there I get dealt 22 UTG, I limp in and a guy in MP raises, he gets like 3 callers so I call as well. I was loving the T82cc flop...for about a minute...until the action went the guy in MP cbet, an Asian guy raises, and Klein (Ringer's friend) shoves. I show the guy to my right my set of deuces as I fold and the Asian guy called. Klein showed up with 88. Later I get QQ on the button, one guy who is a CR's member limps in MP, I raise and the flop comes down Q97cc. He check/raises me so I just shoved I think...stacks were a little deeper than 100bb, but anyway he called and showed 77. I then had a hand where Klein opened from UTG, I flatted w/ 88, another guy to my left called and the flop came down 764ss. He cbet, I raised, the guy to my left flatted and Klein folded. I figured he had me beat when I raised, but I also knew that he knew that so I was hoping to level him. Turns out he had 99, but anyway I shoved the turn and the guy called with AJss for the nut flush draw and 2 overs but the river was a brick so I shipped the pot.
So now for the epic story about a hero fold gone bad...4 of us at our table had agreed to do the deuce-seven bounty game at the table for $5 each. Ringer was UTG and did some kind of fake straddle although he looked at his cards so it was really just a minraise to $6, 1 or 2 more people called and I looked down at 72cc. I raised to $40 and Ringer called after not much thought at all and the other guys folded. Well damn, I would've liked to take it down pre but whatever. The flop comes down T96 with one club, so I had picked up a gutter and a backdoor flush draw to go with my seven high. Ringer checks, I bet $60, he raises to $180 leaving only $120 behind and here's what went through my head. First thing I did was count my profit and see if I went with the hand and lost how much I would be up, which was like $150 so I was ok with that. Then I thought I had went this far with the 72 bluff, and I did have some equity in the hand so why not shove? The actual deciding factor was that I thought I could level the shit out of him because he would think I would never be stupid enough to bluff in that spot so I thought I did have a decent amount of fold equity. Not to mention the times when he's bluffing himself. So I shoved. He folded KK. King mother fucking king. Two kings. Cowboys. Getting like 4:1. Hooooollllyyy shit.
I tabled my 72 and the table went hysterical, with me actually having to get up from the table from laughing too hard. The look on Ringer's face was so epic when he saw my cards, it was a look of total disbelief and disgust for getting owned so hard. The best part was he still had to pay me $5 from the 72 bounty when the hand was over. Everyone's been talking about the hand since which is funny because Ringer's getting needled left and right. Even he's been talking about it...right as soon as he woke up yesterday morning he was like "Damn you Vizer." Poor guy.
Oh yeah, I ended up popping my puking in Vegas cherry that night after having to bail from a beer pong game to run to the bathroom. I had like 8 or 9 beers probably, but still I feel like such a lightweight, but I know by the time this summer is over I'll probably be an alcoholic.

Oh yeah...I'm In VEGAS
What's up guys? Sorry about the lack of updates but it's been a really busy week between getting everything ready to leave for Vegas and then trying to hang out with my friends before leaving. The drive ended up taking 30 hours and I made it here in 3 days, so that wasn't too bad. My dog Bella did wonderful in the car, which I was pretty worried about since I've never taken her on a car ride for longer than an hour. I ended up meeting Ringer in Oklahoma City on the first night and we caravaned the rest of the way to Vegas which was nice because at least during the stops I had someone to talk to.
We got to the house on Sunday afternoon and it looks just like the pictures. After a quick inspection we chose rooms and I picked the 2nd biggest bedroom which happens to have pinkish/purpleish walls but whatever I'm man enough to deal with it. Hopefully the ladies will like the color of the ceiling...
Yesterday I went to hook up my computer and when I powered it up the power light would come on then flash off, and in the end it wouldn't boot up. After talking with Undugu he thought my video card and/or power supply was fried and sure enough it was. I got that fixed today and just finished my first real poker session in Vegas (+1100). I say real because a little while ago Ringer and I sat at a .05/.10 table and started shoving if we were first to act and I lost $180ish, but that was just pure fun. The best was the .05/.10 reg who said "nh fish" after stacking me and ended up losing his $50 stack to Ringer and I. So anyway, I have a lot to say buy my mind is all over the place right now, but hopefully after another day of relaxing in the pool and hot tub I'll be able to write a little more clearly.
Btw, here is a link to some of my pictures from the road trip with Nfuego http://www.flickr.com/photos/36498398@N08/sets/72157615338698247/

Poker, What Else?
First off, to all the mothers reading this...Happy Mother's Day!
Lol yeah right who am I kidding? Ain't no mothers reading this shit.
So this weekend was pretty sick poker-wise; unfortunately I can't show a graph or post any hh's because the converter doesn't work since the latest Cake update...but man it was a doozy. Friday night I got stuck at least $1500 (probably more, but the last time I checked my balance I was around -$1500 and wanted to puke so I didn't check it again) but I staged a huge comeback to finish up $150. Some of the big hands were me getting stacked at 2/4 after squeezing preflop and then stacking off on a JTTxx board where he obviously had JT (I quit my 2/4 tables after that b/c I was afraid of tilting), then I bluffed off a 200bb stack at 200NL SB vs. BB when I 4b the BB who's kinda nitty but seems to play back at me with A9, then I proceeded to crai on a 765 flop and he looked me up with TT...sigh, then I won a pot w/ bottom set where I minraised on the flop and got two retards to stack off with top pair and that's what sparked my upswing. I followed that session up with a +$600ish session last night and a rollercoaster session tonight where I was up 1k then back to even but finished +$700ish, so it's been an ok weekend I guess. I haven't been playing my A game much lately and have probably been playing something more like my B or B- game, but luckily it is still good enough to beat the games. I really wish I could go over my sessions from this weekend because I've had some really cool spots come up where I was like "Hmm I don't know what I'm going to do if the villain does this..." and then the villain did exactly what I was afraid of. It's amazing how this game is just a continual learning process.
I need to leave for Vegas no later than Friday, but hopefully I'll get out of the house by Thursday. I have so much to do and so little time...it's pretty frustrating. I just can't wait to be out there and settled in. Soaking in the pool in the 90 degree weather sounds quite refreshing right now...or in the hot tub after a really hard workout...god I can't wait.

Elevate Your Game
I was going to write a long rant of a blog post about how bad I'm running this month, but I think I'm going to try to touch on another topic instead. Cliff notes of what it would've said: I lost $900 on May 2 but I'm only down $300 on the month now. Yesterday I ran $600 below allin EV and still made $350 but felt depressed. FML
So anyway, enough of that. I realized a long time ago that bitching about poker isn't going to get me anywhere, so I try to keep that to a minimum. I know I've bitched a little bit to a few of you on AIM this month, but it's nothing epic and usually just a one line like "Jesus can I run any worse?" Enough of that; what I'm going to touch on today has to do with the evolution of poker. I haven't really planned this out, so it's going to be a spewage of words, but whatever deal with it.
When I started multi-tabling full ring a few years ago on Party, I had no clue what I was doing but still made some money because the players were THAT bad. However, I didn't know what bankroll management was, so I lost my roll playing 3/6 and 5/10 with like 10 buyins or something. Fast forward to the summer of 2007; I started playing on Full Tilt and in my first month back at multi-tabling full ring at .5/1 I made $5k so of course I thought I was the shit. Really, I was just running fairly good and the players weren't THAT bad anymore, but they were still bad. Several months later I decided to go pro, which looking back now was such a risky endeavor that I can't even fathom anymore. I had a misconception that I was good at poker back then, when in reality I wasn't...I was just better than most of my competition. Well guess what, the players only got better and the tables only got tougher. When Februrary of 2008 rolled around, the games were significantly tougher than in the summer of '07. We can thank 2+2 and Cardrunners for this. So what'd I do? I joined Cardrunners.
The thing with Cardrunners and the effect that it's teaching tools have on it's members, is that a lot of players just emulate what they saw in a video because they saw CTS do it or whatever, but at the same time they don't know WHY they're doing it. I used to be the same way. During the summer of '08 something clicked and I started to think on my own a little more about why I was isolating limpers w/ 98s and not limping behind with it, or why I'm not cbetting certain board textures, or why I'm trying to showdown ace high. It was only during this time that I really started to think about the game of poker a little more seriously and not just try to emulate what I saw others doing. Fast forward to present day. I'm constantly trying new things even though for the past few months I've been killing 1/2. This month I'm playing a little looser and am increasing my 3bet percentage two-fold. Why? So I get better. I want to challenge myself to be the best player that I can be, and playing the same way in autopilot or whatever isn't going to help me keep ahead of the evolution of poker. If you don't continually challenge and evalutate yourself, poker is going to pass you by and before you know it you're going to be the one they call a rakeback pro because the games got tougher and you didn't do anything about it.
As an example, I'm working on increasing my 3betting to learn how people adjust to preflop aggression. When I move up full time to 2/4, this is going to be an important skillset to have. Also, lot's of other players are emulating what they see in videos, like Raptor 3betting a ton of hands on the button, and by me working that into my game I'm able to think like my opponents, and hopefully adjust properly and out-think them. I am playing a little looser this month because I want to work on handreading a little more, which really isn't all that difficult if you play 14/10 or whatever. Yes, you still have to handread, but you're not in as many marginal situations where handreading is crucial. I review hands in HEM after every session; and not just my biggest losing hands. I even look at the hands where I cbet or double barrel and assess my bets based on the players and board texture. Quite often I have a hand history where I open it up and think "My god that was a horrible double barrel because that turn card doesn't nearly improve my range as much as it does his..." etc.
In summary, poker is a game of evolution. The players only get better, so if you're think you're good now but you haven't talked over any hh's with anybody in forever, haven't tried new things at the tables, haven't thought about why you're doing what you're doing...then you have some work to do. If not, your winrate is going to plummet from 2ptbb/100 to 0.5 ptbb/100 before you know it. I urge you to continually challenge yourself and to be honest with yourself. Am I one of the top 5 regs at 1/2 on Cake? I think I am. But that doesn't matter, because I know every other player is going to improve, so I need to improve faster. I don't want to be in the top 5, I want to be at the very top.
See you all at the top!

Epic Graph Below

Why's it epic? Hopefully it's obvious, but on the last day of the month I made almost as much as I did during the rest of the month combined. The sick part is that I was beating the games for 11bb/100 before that anyway. Yesterday I sat down at 2/4 and played on a really good table and took away 2 buyins, and also won another $900 at 1/2. Then, right before I was supposed to coach, TheRenaissance on 2+2 said he wanted to do some flips, so I told him I would flip him for my remaining $36 on FTP and would keep flipping if I won the first one. I ended the 12 hand flipping session up $700 lol. So I finished +$2400 from poker, which I believe is my biggest winning day ever.
Anyway, that graph is missing about $500 from poker, $300 from coaching, and $450 from rakeback, so all-in-all I made around $7k for the month. Not too shabby for the amount of time I put in. I was gone for the first week of the month, and then when I got back I chose to spend a bunch of time with my friends, so I'm not too worried about the lack of hours I put in this month.
